Abaco Big Bird Ltd

This family-owned farm began operating in 1995, and today Abaco Big Bird is the largest poultry farm and supplier in The Bahamas, providing fresh poultry to local grocery stores, restaurants, resorts, and farm visitors via their on-site store. Unlike on other commercial poultry farms, chickens here are raised in a low-stress environment, are treated as humanely as possible, and are not fed hormones, steroids, or other preservatives in order to provide some of the healthiest and best-tasting chicken on the market.

After Hurricane Dorian destroyed all five of their poultry barns, the main focus has been on restoring the facilities to get back to producing a much-needed steady supply of fresh poultry to distribute across the archipelago. The Pinders will purchase a third poultry barn in order to reconstruct the farm; this new barn will have capacity for 4,000 birds, and within one year will not only be supplying the local market with an average of 104,000 pounds of poultry annually, but will also provide steady weekly income for approximately eight workers in the processing facility.
