WCK Serves D.C. Area Feds & Families
As the federal government shutdown continues, WCK teams and volunteers are serving meals in and around the Washington, D.C. region to federal workers and their families. Our teams are serving thousands of daily meals at our distribution sites and to essential staff at four major airports.
We are working with local restaurants to serve thousands of meals daily, ranging from Cuban specialties to Mediterranean classics.
WCK Chef Corps members have been instrumental in this effort. Chef Matt Adler, who was also part of our 2019 #ChefsForFeds efforts, is helping ensure our distribution sites run smoothly. Teams at Chef Corps-owned and operated restaurants, including Maketto, Mandu, Bread & Water Company, Lebanese Taverna, RASA, and 2fifty Texas BBQ, have been cooking so people impacted by the shutdown can have a comforting meal. Hear from our partners at RASA about their experience cooking for their neighbors:
Our teams are also serving meals to essential airport staff working without pay. WCK teams and partners are personally delivering meals to TSA agents and air traffic controllers at Washington National Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Airport, and Dulles International Airport so people working without pay do not have the added stress of knowing how they will afford a meal.
Local volunteers have joined our effort. Every day, community members are showing up to serve meals to their neighbors. Katie and Allison, two of our volunteers, met on-site at our National Archives location last week and immediately became friends.
