First Alert: WCK prepositioning in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton
World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is prepositioned in Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton’s projected landfall. Our teams hope to reactivate the Field Kitchen that has been producing thousands of meals a day following Hurricane Helene as soon as it is safe. We’ve also readied our Rapid Response Field Kitchen and a fleet of WCK food truck partners are standing by to support immediately after the storm passes.
Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall in Florida as a major hurricane tonight into early Thursday morning with a life-threatening storm surge, high winds, tornadoes, and flooding. Many storm models are projecting devastating impact to the Tampa Bay area, which is home to more than 3.1 million people. Hurricane Milton is also expected to grow in size before it reaches Florida’s coast, meaning areas outside of the forecasted path will feel effects of the storm.
The Gulf coast of Florida is still in the early recovery stages following Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in the Big Bend area just two weeks ago. WCK has provided more than 110,000 meals within Florida alone, and we are also supporting communities in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Read more about our efforts here.
