Making Zakat Count: 5 Million Ramadan Meals & 100% Donation Impact

February 26, 2025

Ramadan is a time of deep reflection, community, and generosity for Muslim communities. It is also a time when Muslims around the world fulfill their obligation of Zakat, a pillar of Islam that ensures the wealth of the fortunate reaches those in need. This year, World Central Kitchen is making every Zakat donation count. We’re launching a large-scale Ramadan aid activation, aiming to serve 5 million meals to the most vulnerable people who are facing extreme hardship in Gaza and the West Bank, with an additional 50,000 meals served daily in Lebanon.

The Spirit of Zakat: Compassion and Responsibility

Zakat is a financial contribution, but it is also a profound act of solidarity, compassion, and social justice. It is one way to uplift the most vulnerable, providing them with essentials like food, shelter, and dignity. In Islam, Zakat serves as a divine responsibility, ensuring that communities redistribute wealth to help those who are struggling. This sacred duty is especially crucial during Ramadan, a month that embodies mercy and generosity.

Your Zakat-eligible donations helped make it possible for us to serve 10 million meals in our Dier El Balah kitchen in South Gaza in the last year alone.  Our Mobile Bakery, designed and built with support from the King of Jordan, Abdullah II, is firing on all cylinders reaching internally displaced people and refugees in Gaza, capable of making more than 3,000 pitas every hour. Our three field kitchens and 75 community kitchens in South Gaza serve nearly 275,000 meals a day.

In North Gaza, our teams are currently delivering 25,660 hot meals daily, working with local restaurant partners. The spirit of Zakat is strong, bringing hope and dignity to the most vulnerable.

WCK: A Trusted Partner for Zakat Distribution with 100% Donation Impact. Every Dollar Feeds the Hungry

When it comes to Zakat, trust and transparency are essential. One of the most significant aspects of our Ramadan food distribution is our 100% donation policy. Every dollar given for Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon is strictly allocated to food aid, ensuring that none of the funds are used for overhead, operational, or infrastructure expenses. This guarantees that every meal provided is a direct result of the generosity of donors.

WCK’s work is Zakat-certified by respected Islamic institutions, including:

  • Jordanian General Fatwa Office
  • Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought
  • National Zakat Foundation Canada (Shaykh Aarij Anwer)
  • Shaykh Joe Bradford and Shaykh Yaser Birjas

This verification assures donors that their Zakat is being distributed ethically and in accordance with Islamic principles. Additionally, WCK ensures that all meals distributed are certified halal and culturally appropriate, with every ingredient carefully sourced and verified by our culinary team.

A Sacred Duty, A Shared Responsibility

As millions embrace the blessings of Ramadan, it is a time to reflect on how truly impactful Zakat is. We work to make sure that WCK serves as a trusted Zakat-certified partner and that donors can be confident that their contributions are directly feeding the most vulnerable in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.

This Ramadan, let us come together in compassion and ensure that your Zakat not only fulfills a religious duty but also brings immediate relief and nourishment.

Give your Zakat with confidence.
