The tornadoes devastated cities and towns across the central and southern US – a candle factory and entire communities were left in rubble in Kentucky, and in southern Illinois, an Amazon distribution center partially collapsed, tragically killing employees inside.
Arriving in Kentucky immediately following the storm, the WCK Relief Team spread out across the state as well as sending teams to assess needs in Illinois, Tennessee, and Arkansas. We quickly partnered with the Lee Initiative – who we’ve worked with before – to mobilize local food trucks to reach rural communities impacted by the tornadoes. Additionally, we saw many people step up to start cooking meals for their neighbors in need, so we worked to help these individuals by covering their costs of providing meals.
In addition to supporting local businesses and people supporting their communities, WCK brought our own Relief Food Trucks in to prepare meals—including special Christmas dinners in Mayfield! In total, our team served more than 110,000 fresh meals to people impacted in the month of December.
We were in the bathtub & our whole house was shaking. Once it passed, we looked through the window to see all my neighbor’s houses gone, and we’re left untouched. A miracle that I can’t believe.

Shey & Adeline
Shey & Adeline
This is Shey & her daughter, Adeline. After the tornado hit Mayfield, Shey rushed to help her grandmother and her cousins who have 11 children between them. The WCK team dropped off 20 meals for Shey to share with her family as they begin to recover.
Daniel
Daniel
Daniel lives about 3 hours from Mayfield. When he found a photograph in a tree in his backyard, he knew it was likely ripped from someone’s home. He immediately filled his van with supplies & drove to Mayfield—now he’s helping WCK distribute meals to families!
Brandy & Allison
Brandy & Allison
Friends since 1st grade, Brandy & Allison spent today in Dawson Springs, KY looking for documents in the now destroyed home of Brandy’s grandmother who thankfully survived the storm. When we brought lunch, Brandy shared that she was grateful to have found her grandma’s bible.
