For Palestinians by Palestinians: Community Kitchens
In the heart of crisis-ridden Gaza, where the need for sustenance and support is urgent, World Central Kitchen is pioneering a groundbreaking initiative to empower local communities: the establishment of community kitchens. This innovative approach not only decentralizes meal distribution but also fosters a sense of ownership and self-reliance among the Palestinians.
Since serving our first meals in Gaza in early October, WCK’s team have distributed more than 30 million meals to people in need and set up 60 community kitchens. These kitchens, managed by local Palestinians, have the capacity to produce around 2,000 meals per day, ensuring that desperately needed food reaches people in need swiftly and efficiently.
The beauty of this initiative lies in its scalability and sustainability. With an average of 5-7 new community kitchens established each week, WCK is rapidly expanding our network, enabling local communities to support one another in times of crisis. By providing the necessary resources and training, including equipment and food supplies, WCK empowers these communities to take charge of their own welfare.
Central to this endeavor are WCK’s dedicated trucks, equipped with everything needed to set up a fully operational kitchen. From state-of-the-art stoves to cooking equipment and food supplies, these trucks serve as mobile hubs of support, ensuring that even the most remote areas receive assistance.
But the true heroes of this initiative are the local team members, trained by WCK to operationalize these community kitchens with speed and efficiency. Their dedication and commitment are the driving force behind the success of this project, embodying the spirit of solidarity and resilience.
