WCK Responds to Devastating Floods in Australia

World Central Kitchen is providing meals to communities impacted by severe flooding in northeastern Australia. Heavy rain and ongoing poor weather continue to complicate logistics, but our Relief Team is adapting to ensure food reaches people in need.

Severe flooding in Queensland has left entire communities cut off, depriving families of reliable access to food, water, and other essentials. Ingham and surrounding areas remain largely isolated, with helicopters being the only means of transportation. WCK is using helicopters to reach these remote areas and is working closely with local partners to serve meals.

Last week, we completed our first food drop via helicopter from Townsville, delivering hundreds of sandwiches and meat pies—an Australian staple—to the isolated communities of Long Pocket and Abergowie. The following day, WCK deployed two helicopters carrying 500 hot meals, 500 sandwiches, and 100 loaves of bread to multiple flood-affected areas, including Long Pocket, Abergowie, Macnade, Halifax, Cordelia, and Forrest Beach.

Despite the obstacles posed by ongoing extreme weather, WCK remains committed to ensuring that no one faces this disaster alone. We will continue adapting and expanding our efforts to feed families affected by the Queensland floods.
