Great Plates Delivered Santa Clara County Local Restaurant Activation and Emergency Feeding
The City of San Jose is providing a service to the County of Santa Clara for county-wide food and necessities distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery period. Together, the City of San Jose, County of Santa Clara, School Districts, community-based organizations (CBOs), and the private sector are executing and iterating on a plan of action to meet the nutritional needs of at risk populations. In addition to these efforts, federal and state governments have recognized the increased need to provide assistance to vulnerable populations and have continuously introduced and expanded opportunities to support local communities. On April 24, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom introduced an “Emergency Feeding Program Framework” that seeks to expand meal access to include a population of newly defined vulnerable persons, stimulate local restaurant ecosystem recovery, and put in place streamlined funding guidance for this opportunity. This program has been officially named “Great Plates Delivered.”
