18,000 Meals Served with #ChefsForCalifornia

#ChefsForCalifornia has continued strong this week, serving 9,000 meals in Los Angeles with our partner L.A. Kitchen and another 9,000 meals from our second kitchen in Ventura. Thanks to donations from Petty Ranch, LA Speciality, Naturipe Farms, Masienda, Mustard GirlDole, and Trader Joe's, quality meals are reaching the hardworking men and women who are helping to rescue and restore communities affected by wildfires. Through our kitchen in Ventura, we are preparing hot meals twice a day that are being delivered to Oxnard, Carpinteria, and Santa Barbara to firefighters and first responders who are working long hours in dangerous environments to prevent the spread of destruction. After an exhausting day, a hot meal really makes a difference. "We've been out here for eleven days now...eating food at basecamp and sack lunches, " one firefighter remarked. "This is the best so far. We really appreciate it."

The #ChefsForCalifornia team includes volunteers from L.A. Kitchen, WCK volunteer team coordinated by Jim Rice, and the help of many chefs including Chef Theresa Koenig, Chef Jason Collis, Chef Lovely JacksonChef Tim Kilcoyne, Chef Magda Weydt, Chef West Cooke, and Chef David Chang and the Momofuku team.

Given WCK's past experiences this year with flooding in Peru, Hurricane Harvey, and Hurricane Maria, our Chef Relief Network was able to mobilize quickly and learn from past experiences to find ways to effectively get meals where they are needed most.

WCK and our partners will be closely monitoring the situation and assisting organizations like the Red Cross and National Guard to make sure that first responders and those living in temporary shelters are well fed.
