First Alert: WCK Relief Team in Afghanistan with Instant Aid after Deadly Earthquake
World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is working with longtime partner Instant Aid to support families in eastern Afghanistan after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake rocked the Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. The quake caused injuries and fatalities, displaced families, and left many without access to food and water.
Instant Aid has established a kitchen in Nurgal, a community near the epicenter, and will be supporting them to begin serving meals to the community as soon as possible. Access to water remains challenging, and we are coordinating with impacted communities to assess needs.

Instant Aid has supported WCK’s previous responses in the region. This marks the third time we have partnered in response to an earthquake in Afghanistan, after serving hundreds of thousands of meals following quakes in 2022 and 2023. Together, we also responded to flooding in Afghanistan in 2022 and to the earthquakes in Türkiye in early 2023.
This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Bluesky, and Facebook for real-time updates.
