First Alert: WCK is in Brazil after Rare Powerful Tornado
WCK is responding in Brazil after a powerful tornado struck the state of Paraná in southern Brazil. Wind speeds reached up to 180-250 km/h and at least six people were killed and hundreds injured with many more affected. The tornado caused destruction to homes, infrastructure, and essential services. Our Relief Team is working with local partners to serve meals to impacted families.
The tornado hit the municipality of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu in Paraná, southern Brazil on November 7. Meteorologists classified the tornado as likely an EF3/F3 equivalent event, which is rare in the region. The tornado caused catastrophic damage, destroying 80% of the town’s structures. Our Relief team began working with the local team in Porto Alegre to serve impacted families.
