#ChefsForGuatemala Activates After Fuego Volcano
Just four days after arriving in Guatemala following the eruption of Fuego Volcano, Chef José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen team have activated multiple kitchens and food trucks to deliver meals to 18 distribution points within the eruption radius. By partnering with organizations like GenteGas and Vamos Adelante, #ChefsForGuatemala has already ramped up production to serve thousands of meals per day to those impacted by the eruption.
The devastating eruption of the Fuego Volcano has left 110 dead and hundreds missing. Thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes to avoid the pyroclastic fallout. Although shelters have been established, many are run entirely by volunteers and have no established feeding operation. By partnering with local kitchens and food trucks, we are able to quickly and effectively produce meals and deliver them to shelters.
Yesterday, José and the team delivered meals to Ceilan, which was directly in the impact radius of the volcano. The team distributed thousands of sandwiches to rescue workers, volunteer doctors, families, and partner organizations. Today, a team of volunteers prepped slow roasted pork with rice and beans, a tomato and onion salad, and fresh fruit from a local vendor in our kitchen, Casa Troccoli, in Antigua.
The Fuego Volcano remains active and thousands remain without consistent access to quality food. Donate now to help World Central Kitchen purchase ingredients and delivery supplies to expand our operations, and follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for the latest updates.
