First Alert: WCK Responding to Intense Flooding in Colombia
World Central Kitchen is responding in Colombia, where days of intense rainfall have triggered severe flooding, widespread power outages, and dangerous conditions that are forcing families from their homes. Working alongside local partners, our teams are serving meals to communities impacted by the storms.
Low-lying areas of the Córdoba department, particularly around Montería, are experiencing significant destruction as rivers overflow and floodwaters inundate neighborhoods, roadways, and farmland. Access to many areas remains limited as conditions continue to evolve.
Across Colombia, the impacts of this prolonged rainy season are being felt at an unprecedented scale. Heavy rains have affected 27 of the country’s 32 departments, disrupting daily life and displacing tens of thousands of families nationwide.
Within this national emergency, Córdoba stands out as one of the hardest-hit regions. Flooding in Montería and surrounding rural communities has damaged homes, cut off road access, and disrupted essential services, including electricity, water supply, and communications.
WCK teams are coordinating closely with local partners, community leaders, and authorities to ensure meals reach anyone in need, including families sheltering after being forced from their homes. As always, our priority is speed—getting a first meal to people as quickly and safely as possible, when it matters most.
This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for real time updates.
