First Alert: WCK responds to Hurricane Debby

August 5, 2024

World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is in the Big Bend area of Florida, west of Gainesville, supporting families impacted by Hurricane Debby.

This storm made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane and is impacting the same area devastated by Hurricane Idalia almost a year ago. Hundreds of thousands in the region are without power and a tornado watch is in effect until Monday afternoon for millions of people in Florida and Georgia.

WCK’s Relief Team prepositioned ahead of the storm and prepared hundreds of sandwiches to provide immediate support as we assess needs. Our teams responded to Hurricane Idalia in this same region last year, providing nearly 100,000 meals to families impacted.

This is the second hurricane WCK has responded to this year. Our teams are still at work providing nourishing meals on several Caribbean islands after Hurricane Beryl made landfall early July.

This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for real time updates.

Help us feed families impacted by the storm.
