How WCK Gaza is Supporting Families With Protein and Passion
As Palestinian families begin returning home, WCK teams are with them every step of the way. From cooking with new shipments of protein and vegetables to caring for community members with hearing disabilities, our teams are working tirelessly to serve 600,000 meals daily and scale further to reach our goal of 1 million meals per day.
Meet Ahmad and Ayham, two team members who are serving bread and meals to families returning to Khan Younis:
In mid-October, WCK received shipments of beef and chicken from Egypt, allowing our kitchens to cook meat for the first time in eight months. With these ingredients, we have served hundreds of thousands of nourishing, protein-packed meals across Gaza.
With these ingredients on hand, WCK’s Field Kitchens are scaling as we push toward serving 1 million meals per day. Teams at our two new kitchens—Hayat (meaning “life”) and Salam (meaning “peace”)—are already serving hundreds of thousands of meals just weeks after opening. At our Deir al-Balah and Damian’s Kitchens, teams are distributing meals to families unable to reach cooking sites, covering more than 250 distribution points.
Even as our operations grow, the need is immense. Many families have lost their homes, communities, and access to food, relying on WCK kitchens for daily meals.
At the heart of it all are Palestinians stepping up for one another across Gaza. Team members like Mohammed, a delivery driver, and Umm Islam, a sous chef, are working hard to care for their communities. Read their stories here:
Our teams have also been distributing bread and food kits to families in need. Meet Mahmoud, a patient at the Hamad Center for Prosthetics, who WCK gave a food kit while he had his hearing aides repaired. WCK supplied Mahmoud and many other families receiving treatment here with fruit kits:
Families in Gaza still have a long road to recovery, with many of them remaining displaced. While WCK is doing as much as we can to support communities, we need a free flow of humanitarian aid in order to reach everyone in need.
