WCK Relief Team Providing Meals on Ibiza in Response to Severe Flooding
World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is working with local partners to provide meals on the island of Ibiza after post-tropical storm Gabrielle dropped torrential rains on the Balearic Islands. Ibiza’s capital city received 10 inches of rain in just 24 hours on September 30 – the most rain the island has seen in over 70 years.
Local firefighters and the Military Emergency Unit (UME) have been deployed to conduct rescues and manage damage caused by the storm.
Storm Gabrielle originated as Hurricane Gabrielle, a Category 4 system that crossed the Atlantic earlier in the month before turning into a post-tropical cyclone on its approach to Europe.
Earlier this year, WCK teams responded in Ourense, serving first responders and impacted communities as wildfires raged across the region. We also served over 6 million meals in Valencia during the 2024 DANA flooding, supporting the community through the holiday season and into the new year.
