First Alert: WCK is in Illinois after Devastating Tornado

March 11, 2026

WCK is responding in Illinois after a tornado struck the area around Kankakee, causing fatalities and leaving behind a wake of destruction. The storm left many families without power, and some have been forced into shelters as the tornado destroyed their homes. Road closures and infrastructure damage have limited access to food. WCK teams are en route to serve meals and connect with community members.

WCK has extensive experience responding to tornadoes. As recently as last year, our teams served communities across Missouri and Kentucky after tornadoes destroyed homes and businesses in small towns and cities including St. Louis. Working with new partners and longtime Chef Corps members like Haley Riley, WCK served more than 300,000 combined meals across both responses.

This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Bluesky, and Facebook for real-time updates.
