MEDIA ALERT: WCK Delivers Daily Meals to Elderly and Homebound Residents Unable to Safely Access Food

March 19, 2026

Tel Aviv, Israel _ World Central Kitchen (WCK) is scaling our response to reach people who are unable to safely access food due to ongoing attacks across Israel. WCK is focused on those most severely affected by the conflict — including elderly individuals, people living with disabilities, and others who are effectively confined to their homes.

WCK is currently delivering hundreds of hot meals daily, primarily to individuals living along the northern border. Many recipients cannot safely reach shelters or basic services due to mobility challenges. For many, these deliveries are not only their only source of food, but also their only connection to the outside world.

In addition to daily meal deliveries, WCK teams are responding to impact sites across the country, providing meals to affected families, evacuees, and first responders. In recent days, this has included support to communities observing Ramadan, where WCK provided both lunch for children and Iftar meals for families after a strike damaged residential areas in the north.

WCK has just introduced food box distributions for families with young children, enabling them to cook meals at home and increasing the number of people served. WCK is also supporting women with children and others staying in underground public shelters, including large night shelters in central Israel, where teams deliver sandwiches and water each evening.

WCK’s response in Israel is powered by a network of local restaurant and catering partners, allowing the organization to respond flexibly across different regions and rapidly deliver culturally appropriate, home-style meals.

Chef Ruthie Rousso, who is leading WCK response in Israel, says:

“Many of the people we are reaching cannot leave their homes — not because they don’t want to, but because it’s simply too dangerous. When there are continuous sirens and strikes, elderly people living on upper floors just cannot make it to shelters in time. So they stay inside.

“For them, the meal we deliver is not just food — it’s the only meal they will have that day, and often the only human interaction they experience. We see it every day: people who are isolated, frightened, and completely cut off.

“At impact sites, we meet families who have lost parts of their homes but still choose to stay. They clean what they can, sit among the damage, and share a meal together. That moment — even in the middle of destruction — matters.”
