Rejuvenating the Fishing Industry in Haiti

fishermen-first-boats-copyThe seas near Jacmel, Haiti are rich with desirable fish. However, the fishing industry has seen limited business due to outdated fishing practices and limited infrastructure to catch, process and export fish.

The fishermen are stagnated and live below the poverty line, while rich resources swim nearby.

World Central Kitchen is partnering with MM Group to provide new boats and build a processing facility for the fishing community in Jacmel, Haiti. The new facility is expected to help these communities catch and process four times their normal catch in the first year alone.

With a contract to export these fish to other North American countries, the 400 fisherman involved will quadruple their income, elevate the lives of their families, and rejuvenate the fishing industry in Haiti.
