First Alert: WCK En Route to Indonesia After Magnitude 7.4 Earthquake
World Central Kitchen is en route to Indonesia, where a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck in the Molucca Sea off the coast of Northern Sulawesi. Tsunami waves formed in the immediate aftermath, and strong aftershocks are still causing damage. The initial earthquake destroyed many homes and businesses in Sulawesi. Our teams are working closely with restaurant partners and local community members to serve meals to impacted families.
WCK teams responded in Sulawesi in 2021, when a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the island’s city of Mamuju. Working side-by-side with our local restaurant partners and team members, we were able to connect with the most impacted communities and serve tens of thousands of meals.
