WCK Culinary School Makes Its Mark
Just months after opening, World Central Kitchen's new Culinary School (Ecole des Chefs) has already become a fixture of the culinary community in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. A beautiful venue paired with state-of-the-art equipment has given our students the opportunity to immerse themselves in hands-on training led by Haiti's top female chef, Mi-Sol Chevallier. Our newest class of students had the opportunity to show off their skills by preparing a special graduation dinner for the outgoing class of graduates as well as chefs and restaurateurs from Port-Au-Prince. The menu included an array of international and Haitian favorites including griot.
Our students put their best feet forward as they prepared the dinner thanks to Mozo's Shoes For Crews, who generously donated a pair of high-quality chef shoes for each of our students.
The evening culminated with each graduating student being presented with a graduation certificate and certification card. Each student is currently interning in one of Port-Au-Prince's top restaurants as they work their way towards becoming full-fledged professional chefs.
Our Culinary School also hosted a special fundraising dinner presented by Sharon Lee-Brun and Don Tanakorn. After spending a few days teaching the students Asian cuisine, the team prepared a seven course feast including a variety of curries and skewers. All of the dishes were beautifully plated and presented on tableware from Front of the House, who donated 50 sets of tableware for the students to use for this event and in the future.
The event was a huge success, with all proceeds supporting scholarships to help young adults in Haiti who are passionate about cooking to attend our school, regardless of their ability to pay.
We could not be more proud of our culinary students and their passion for the art of cooking. Follow their progress on World Central Kitchen's Ecole des Chefs on Facebook, and check out more photos below.
