WCK supports evacuees in Ukraine
WCK is supporting evacuees around Ukraine as Russian advances force tens of thousands from their homes. In many cases, the most vulnerable people—seniors, the disabled, and families with small children—remained in occupied territories or near the frontlines because evacuating is daunting.
Now, they must leave behind all but what they can carry on the trains and travel away from territories already occupied by Russia, away from Russia’s fresh military advances, away from the place they call home. WCK’s Emergency Response team in Ukraine is serving fresh meals as they meet evacuees during every stage of their journeys.Ready with water, snacks, sandwiches, fresh fruit, and salads, our teams have documented what for many is the beginning of an unknown chapter.
Join our teams as they travel with evacuees from Pokrovsk in the east to safer destinations across Ukraine.
Pokrovsk is a common starting point for those evacuating the eastern front. WCK’s Regional Lead, Serhii, meets families with hundreds of sandwiches, bananas, and water as they board trains heading west. Meanwhile Anton, WCK Emergency Supervisor, provides meals to families at the midway point of their journey in Dnipro.
WCK team members reload the trains with food, snacks, and water, ensuring evacuees’ nourishment throughout the remaining ride which can often be up to 10 hours long.
WCK’s Relief Team travels from railcar to railcar meeting passengers and passing out fresh meals and water to anyone who is hungry or thirsty while traveling long distances.
When evacuees arrive at their final destinations, WCK teams throughout Ukraine are waiting. Our teams are at more than 100 distribution sites providing almost 40,000 meals across the country every day. In the Kirovohrad region in central Ukraine, our team greets families as they move into a shelter for the displaced.
As people navigate the uncertainty of being uprooted, we offer a meal and a moment of respite. We hope that in Ukraine, and around the world, a good meal can bring comfort and make any place feel a little more like home.
Help us continue supporting evacuating families in Ukraine.
