Culinary students serve 13,285 meals through #ChefsForHaiti

WCK maintains a strong, ongoing presence in Haiti through Ecole des Chefs (EDC), our Culinary School in Port-au-Prince. Every six months, EDC takes in a new cohort of students for the technique-based curriculum that is focused on food safety, sanitation, knife skills, advanced culinary arts, life skills, and professionalism in the workplace. So, in the wake of the civil unrest and protests the past few weeks in Haiti, our Chef Relief Team activated the current class of culinary students to help provide meals to people in need.

#ChefsForVenezuela Maps Its Route: 30,000 Meals Served So Far

World Central Kitchen’s Chef Relief Team has been in Cúcuta, on the border of Venezuela and Colombia, since the last week of February. When we first arrived, 40,000 Venezuelans were crossing the border legally for food and supplies on a daily basis. Since then, however, entry to these legal routes was abruptly shut down, cutting off access to affordable food and leaving many stuck in Colombia. Nevertheless, thousands of Venezuelans continue to cross at dangerous, unofficial crossings every day. In response, our WCK team quickly started distributing nutritious bagged lunches to shelters throughout the city.

Last week, World Central Kitchen’s Chef Relief Team touched down in Cúcuta, on the border of Venezuela and Colombia, to conduct an initial assessment of the situation and build connections with local partners. There’s widespread hunger amongst Venezuelans – and has been for quite some time. Before the borders closed, it's estimated that 40,000 Venezuelans were crossing the border for food and other essential supplies each day.

WCK Commits $4 Million To Food Security In Puerto Rico

Plow to Plate, World Central Kitchen's principal long-term program in Puerto Rico, has a brighter future than ever. Last month at the Clinton Global Initiative Action Network meeting on Post Disaster Recovery, WCK announced its commitment to operate the program through at least 2023, which supports smallholder farmers and businesses with the goal of increasing food security and sustainability in Puerto Rico.
