Food producer network 2020 grantee

Hatillo NovaLact / De La Crema

Two female entrepreneurs, Glorimel and Carmen, established Hatillo NovaLact in 2014 to complement the work of Hatillo Dairy, a well-established family-owned dairy farm next door. Glorimel and Carmen’s consumer-facing brand De La Crema sells delicious cheeses and fruit yogurts made from Hatillo Dairy milk and locally grown fruits. De La Crema’s cheeses and yogurts are sold locally and at farmers markets. Glorimel and Carmen are extensively educated in business administration, veterinary science, and food science technology. They also run agritourism tours of their operations, including the dairy farm and the cheesemaking process, at the end of which guests get to taste the final product.

Through this grant, Glorimel and Carmen will acquire a vacuum packaging machine for cheese that will package ten times faster than their current one. They will also purchase an industrial food processor and a mixer to process fruits for their yogurts, which will help them double processing capacity.
