    Catastrophic floods displace thousands in Assam, India

    Miles away from home, flooding has forced families to stay in relief camps. Supporting impacted villages, the WCK Relief Team distributed fresh, restaurant-prepared meals.

    After being hit with pre-monsoon rains in May, India was again devastated by extreme flooding a month later. Although it was now monsoon season, many didn’t expect the situation to worsen. June floods ravaged hundreds of embankments across many districts in Assam, India, leaving more than 200,000 people displaced. Some local residents said this was the worst flooding they have seen.

    Together with Chef Alok Subuddhi and WCK Chef Corps member Sanjeev Kapoor—who helped us serve 1.2 million meals following the Delta Covid surge in India last year—we served thousands of restaurant-prepared meals to communities overwhelmed by flooding.
