Supporting five countries impacted by Hurricane Beryl
We provided sandwiches, hot meals, cases of water, and fresh fruit to the hardest hit communities in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Jamaica. Our teams traveled by helicopter and boat to reach every island community, no matter how small. We also had teams in Venezuela, where Beryl caused flooding, and on the Gulf Coast of Texas, where the storm made landfall a week after it first hit the Caribbean.
We worked shoulder to shoulder with community leaders who had already begun distributing aid and helping their neighbors, and WCK offered support to help them grow their capabilities. Despite the devastation, there were still smiles on many faces as people counted themselves lucky to still be able to help one another.

Martlyn
“I lost everything. I had to leave the baby bag with documents to save my life. It’s all gone.” Martlyn and her seven children evacuated to mainland Saint Vincent to start a new life after Hurricane Beryl destroyed their home and belongings.
Melinda
“We had to run for cover, everything was flooded…the kids were panicking…It was hectic.” Melinda lost her house to Hurricane Beryl and was injured while helping her children to safety. They were staying in a Resource Center that had been turned into a shelter for displaced families.
Ras Hadu
“My vegetables were packed outside and they were floating. All of them went away through the water.” Ras’ market stand was wiped out by the hurricane, but he managed to get fresh produce to sell to the community at a low cost.

Sasha and Kenson are helping WCK cook hundreds of meals daily for families on Carriacou impacted by Hurricane Beryl. Like many residents, Sasha lost her job at a beach club when it was destroyed by the storm. She is thrilled that her job with WCK allows her to support other people recovering from the storm.

The roof of Elmore’s home was ripped off when Hurricane Beryl hit Canouan, an island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Like many neighbors, he lost many of his belongings and the ability to prepare food at home. He has been going to WCK’s restaurant partner on the island to receive nourishing meals. “The food is very good and tasty, I am enjoying it very much,” he told our team.

WCK established a Field Kitchen on Carriacou to reach the families hit hardest when Hurricane Beryl hit Grenada. The kitchen is entirely run by local chefs, most of whom lost their homes to the storm. We are cooking comforting meals like jerk chicken, mahi mahi curry, coconut fish, and creole chicken.
