WCK Responds to Earthquake in Philippines

#ChefsForPhilippines
Cebu City, Philippines | October 2025
World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team was in Cebu, Philippines, where a magnitude 6.9 earthquake devastated the local community on September 30. Families lost access to power, water, and roads, and many have lost their homes.

Nearby cities have also experienced destruction, with some declaring a state of emergency.

WCK worked with local community members to respond to the crisis, combining speed, reach, and partnership—using a mix of hot meals, dry goods, and ready-to-eat food while building local capacity for the long term.

In the winter of 2021-2022, WCK responded in the Philippines after Typhoon Rai slammed the island of Siargao. Over the course of that response, we served over 1.4 million meals, ensuring access to hard-to-reach communities through partnerships with local organizations and businesses. Our local partners will again be critical to rapidly supporting the needs of their neighbors.

Convoys of hope

WCK is supporting families in hard-hit Bogo City, where our team is delivering vital supplies to those affected by the earthquake. Trucks loaded with water, rice, and shelf-stable protein have been traveling north from Cebu City to reach this community near the epicenter, ensuring families in need receive essential support.

Local Flavors

WCK is serving plates of humba—a local braised pork and vegetable dish—to people impacted by this week’s earthquake. Our team found families lining the roads with signs asking for food and water, many sheltering in fields or by the roadside as aftershocks continue to shake the region.

Meet our team: Vincent

When disaster strikes, the FIRST first responders are often already there.

Vincent is out every day delivering meals in the Philippines. He was at home with his wife and two kids when the earthquake hit last week. After rushing his family to safety, they spent the night sheltering from heavy rain. Today, Vincent is one of 10 local drivers delivering WCK meals to hard-hit communities. Roads are damaged and access is limited; our local team members have the knowledge of the region to make sure food reaches the families who need it most.
