WCK Responds to New Blazes in Spain as Relentless Wildfire Season Rages
First responders worked to contain the fires, which remained unpredictable as they moved toward Seville. We worked with local partners to serve meals as quickly as possible to the people who needed us most.
We spent much of this summer responding to blazes in Spain. We began by serving families and first responders in Ávila and Madrid impacted by the Burgohondo fire. Soon, needs arose across Castellón, Salamanca, and Zamora. Then, our teams worked across the country to serve various communities as the situation on the ground remained unpredictable.
The Situation Evolves in Huesca
In Huesca, Spain, it’s all hands on deck. While driving along our meal delivery route, WCK teams came across a group of volunteers supporting firefighters battling a hillside blaze—and stopped. We handed them sandwiches, which they took straight to the responders on the front lines. Sometimes the most important delivery isn’t planned. It’s just the right thing to do.
Blazes Expand to Extremadura
As of mid-August, WCK teams have expanded our efforts to Cáceres, Extremadura, where over 200,000 hectares of land has caught fire. WCK teams are supporting emergency crews and first responders as we continue to respond to the Huesca wildfire.
