Wildfires Force Evacuations in Türkiye

#ChefsForTurkiye
Hatay Province | July 2025
World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team was in Türkiye, where wildfires and strong winds forced over 50,000 people to evacuate their homes in Izmir and Hatay. Our teams supported impacted communities as first responders worked to contain the blazes.

Our Relief Team responded immediately to the wildfires in Türkiye thanks to the strong relationships we built during our 2023 earthquake response.

The blazes came during a time of increasingly severe wildfires in Türkiye and across the world.

Our teams mobilized across the region to provide immediate relief to anyone in need.

Reaching anyone in need

When wildfires ignited in Türkiye & forced thousands of families to evacuate their villages in Izmir & Hatay, WCK mobilized quickly to provide support. Alongside trusted partners, we showed up for fire-affected communities that could have otherwise been on their own.

Working with trusted partners

Petek Cafe, our restaurant partner in İskenderun—a city in hard-hit Hatay province—quickly jumped into action, preparing 1,000 sandwiches for our teams to distribute as we assess needs in the area. Petek Cafe was transformed into a WCK Field Kitchen during our efforts in 2023, with teams there preparing more than 379,000 meals.

WCK’s 2023 Earthquake Response

In 2023, our teams responded to the earthquake that rocked both Syria and Türkiye, using all available resources to serve communities cut off by the destruction. We served over 12 million meals during this response, many of them in the Hatay region.
