After cooking a few thousand meals from our friend Jose Enrique’s restaurant in Santurce, WCK began receiving calls for help from all over the island. So we called on chefs across Puerto Rico and from the mainland United States, and activated food trucks who became our delivery angels, reaching remote areas every single day.
We began to expand our operations all across Puerto Rico, mobilizing a network of emergency kitchens, nearly a dozen food trucks, and partner organizations to make sure that everyone in need received a hot meal. The #ChefsForPuertoRico team quickly grew and served more than 150,000 meals in a single day — reaching all 78 municipalities and becoming the largest meal operation following the hurricane.
Once recovery efforts got underway, WCK scaled back our response to focus on the next phase of support, long-term Resilience programs. Our Food Producer Network was born, now serving as a model for our Resilience efforts in Central America and throughout the Caribbean.

#ChefsForPuertoRico continues supporting the island
A core group of the #ChefsForPuertoRico team continues to stand ready in the event of another crisis. Because of this, we were able to start cooking within hours of the devastating earthquakes that hit the island in early 2020 and again in response to Hurricane Fiona which tore through Puerto Rico in 2022.
