First Alert: WCK is en route to Southeast Asia after magnitude 7.7 earthquake

March 28, 2025

World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is en route to Southeast Asia, where a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand. The March 28 temblor caused massive destruction to buildings, infrastructure, and communities. At least 144 people were killed in Myanmar alone, with thousands more missing and injured. A 6.4 magnitude aftershock contributed to further damage. Local authorities remain concerned about more aftershocks and resulting tsunamis.

In Bangkok, Thailand, a high-rise collapsed, killing at least 10 people and injuring many more. Our teams are en route to Bangkok to assess the situation. WCK is working with local restaurants and members of the community to establish connections and access the most impacted areas.

This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Bluesky, and Facebook for real-time updates.
