Jordanian General Fatwa Office and Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought Certify World Central Kitchen as Zakat-eligible
World Central Kitchen (WCK) is honored to announce that the Jordanian General Fatwa Office and Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought have certified WCK’s work in the Middle East and Gaza as Zakat-eligible. This certification is a significant milestone, as Zakat is a fundamental pillar of Islam, and it signifies a crucial step towards WCK’s commitment to alleviate hunger and provide essential support to the people of Gaza.
In accordance with Fatwa number 1/3/2 issued by the General Fatwa Office of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 20 Rajab 1445 corresponding to 01 February 2024, World Central Kitchen’s work in Gaza has been certified as Zakat-eligible. This certification is a testament to WCK’s commitment to upholding the rules for Zakat donations.
WCK ensures that every donation to our Gaza response is strictly allocated to food aid for the Muslim people of Gaza, guaranteeing that no portion of the donation is used for overhead, operational, or infrastructure expenses. Our accounting and backend systems are meticulously designed to allow for the restriction and exclusion of overhead expenses, as verified through WCK audits.
WCK pledges that 100% of donations to our work in Gaza directly support food aid for those most in need, as outlined in Quran 9:60. All food distributed is certified halal and culturally appropriate, with every ingredient confirmed halal by our culinary team.
Our teams in Palestine promptly distribute food aid as soon as logistically feasible, prioritizing swift delivery to those in need.
Our Zakat-eligibility letter was co-signed by Dr. Tarek Elgawhary, General Director, Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, and Dr. Abdur-Rahman, Dean, Whitethread Institute.
