First Alert: WCK Responds to Wildfires in Ávila, Spain
World Central Kitchen is responding in Ávila, Spain, where wildfires have once again forced families out of their homes. As first responders work to contain the fire, WCK teams are mobilizing to make sure people have the food they need. Our network of local restaurants, including longtime partner Chef Carlos Casillas, is already cooking for their neighbors.
Flames and smoke from the blaze pose a risk to thousands of community members in the region. Local authorities have said this is the worst fire in half a century. This comes during a time of increasingly severe wildfires across the world as weather patterns become more and more extreme.
Our local teams recently concluded a response in the province of Almería, where wildfires forced thousands of families to evacuate their homes and caused several fatalities. In 2025, we also served first responders and impacted families during wildfires in the Ávila region.

WCK response to 2025 Ávila fires
In 2024, we responded to the devastating flooding in Valencia, where thousands of families were forced to evacuate and were living in shelters. During that time, we served over 6 million meals to these families.
