WCK is in Georgia responding to the Brantley Highway 82 Fire
WCK’s Relief Team is in Georgia responding to the Highway 82 Fire—a fast-moving blaze that has grown to more than 5,000 acres in less than a day, destroying 87 homes and threatening about 1,000 more. Several communities are under mandatory evacuation orders and Governor Brian Kemp has declared a State of Emergency.
With Georgia seeing 15 inches less rainfall than normal since September and conditions dangerously dry, the fire remains only 15% contained. Our teams are working with local partners to deliver food and water to first responders and families in need.
This is WCK’s third climate-related response in Georgia. In 2023, we served 94,000+ meals in communities across Georgia and Florida after Hurricane Idalia. Then in 2024, we supported families impacted by Hurricane Helene in several states, including Georgia.
This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for real time updates.
