First Alert: World Central Kitchen Responding to Historic Flooding in Central Florida

November 4, 2026

World Central Kitchen is responding in Central Florida after historic rainfall and flooding. With the power out, many families have lost everything in their refrigerators, and flooded roads have cut them off from grocery stores. Our teams are working with local partners to serve nourishing meals to families in need in Barefoot Bay and surrounding areas.

Local community members are already stepping up to support one another. Using trucks, kayaks, airboats, and more, they are connecting with their neighbors impacted by the floods and ensuring that they are taken care of. The storm impacted residents living in mobile homes, in some cases, trapping them inside their homes. WCK teams will be working closely with these communities so that they have what they need.

This is WCK’s second response in Florida in less than a month. In early October, we pre-positioned teams in Alabama and Florida ahead of Hurricane Isaias. This allowed us to jump into action immediately after the storm hit, serving thousands of meals to families across the two states who spent days without power and food access.

This kind of proactive, flexible response is made possible by our Climate and Natural Disaster Fund—the kind of support that allows WCK to act before a disaster is declared, before the headlines arrive, and before the need becomes a crisis. Flexible, ready-to-deploy resources give our teams the speed and freedom to respond wherever and whenever communities need us most.

This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for real time updates.
