First Alert: WCK Pre-Positions Across Southeastern US Ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias
World Central Kitchen is pre-positioning teams in the southeastern US ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias’ landfall, which is projected to hit communities on the gulf coast this Friday. The storm is expected to be a Category 1 or 2 hurricane, with winds reaching up to 100 miles per hour.
By working with communities and local partners before the storm hits, our teams will be in place and ready to act as quickly as possible the moment it passes—ensuring no time is lost getting meals to the people who need them most.
Pre-positioning teams and supplies is one of the most important tools in WCK’s disaster response model, ensuring that when a crisis strikes, we are already there, with the networks, relationships, and resources communities need to begin recovering immediately. Rather than starting from scratch after a disaster, pre-positioning allows our teams to move the moment it is safe to do so.
WCK has done this across past hurricane seasons, placing supplies and teams in key locations across the American Southeast and Puerto Rico—regions we know face heightened vulnerability.
This kind of proactive, flexible response is made possible by our Climate and Natural Disaster Fund—the kind of support that allows WCK to act before a disaster is declared, before the headlines arrive, and before the need becomes a crisis. Flexible, ready-to-deploy resources give our teams the speed and freedom to respond wherever and whenever communities need us most.
This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for real time updates.
