First Alert: WCK in Baja California After Hurricane Rachel
World Central Kitchen is on the ground in Baja California, Mexico after Hurricane Rachel left a wake of destruction over the weekend. We are working with our restaurant partner La Concheria in Ensenada to cook and distribute meals to families whose food access was cut off by the storm.
Ensenada was among the hardest-hit areas, flooding was so severe that patients had to be evacuated from the city’s General Hospital. Our local partners have extensive knowledge of the area and communities most in need, allowing us to support as quickly and effectively as possible.
This response begins as our teams are also responding to the aftermath of Hurricane Simon along Mexico’s Pacific coast. This is WCK’s fourth consecutive year responding to hurricanes in Mexico—we responded to Hurricane Otis in 2023, Hurricane John in 2024, and Hurricane Erick in 2025.
At the same time, WCK is in the gulf coast of the US to support families impacted by Hurricane Isaias. As climate disasters become increasingly intense and common, WCK has built robust networks to support communities impacted by storms.
This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for real time updates.
