World Central Kitchen is working with community leaders on the islands of Oahu, Molokaʻi, and Maui, Hawaiʻi, where Kona Low storms have caused intense flooding and put the Wahiawa Dam on Oahu at risk of failure. Many families have already lost their homes, with some roadways flooded and impassable, especially on the North Shore of Oahu. Some community members are unable to leave their homes. Residents have already come together to care for their communities across the islands, so WCK teams are connecting with community members and organizations to help them serve meals to the hardest-to-reach areas. 

Kona Lows are unique to Hawaiʻi, and are more likely to form during the cooler months. They can bring intense rainfall, mudslides, and thunderstorms across the Hawaiian archipelago. 

In 2023, WCK teams responded to the devastating wildfires on Maui, where we worked closely with local communities to support families who lost everything to the fires. Our teams served more than 150,000 meals as the Maui community began the long process of recovery. We are working to reconnect with many of the partners from this response to care for the people impacted by this recent flooding.
