First Alert: WCK Responds to Storms Across South and Central U.S.

March 17, 2025

World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is on the way to the central and southern United States to provide vital food and water support in the wake of a devastating storm system that caused wildfires, tornadoes, and dust storms across the region.

Across several states, including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, Kansas, and Alabama, raging winds downed power lines, sparking wildfires. Dust storms have done substantial damage, and dozens of tornadoes destroyed communities and homes. About 300,000 people are believed to be without electricity. At least 40 people have died, and Missouri, Kansas, and Alabama are particularly hard-hit.

Our team is on the way to the area and coordinating with local partners to deliver food and water to affected communities to ensure families receive the support they need.

We’re building on experience in the region and with this type of disaster. In 2024, WCK responded to tornadoes in Alabama and Florida, partnering with communities. We have also responded to natural disasters across the southern US, including our ongoing relief efforts after Hurricane Helene.

This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Bluesky, and Facebook for real-time updates.
