WCK in Brazil after Intense Flooding and Landslides

February 26, 2026

World Central Kitchen is responding in Minas Gerais, Brazil, where severe rainstorms have caused landslides and flooding. Many families have been displaced, with first responders searching for missing persons as homes have been destroyed.

Hundreds of families have been forced to evacuate, with roadways quickly flooding and becoming impassable. The towns of Juiz de Fora and Ubá have been especially hard hit, and with more rain forecasted in the coming days, the local government has declared a state of calamity. WCK teams are working to serve meals to families and first responders.

WCK teams have supported Brazilian communities impacted by disaster on several occasions. Most recently, in late 2025, we responded to a rare and intense tornado in Parana. The tornado caused catastrophic damage, destroying 80% of the town’s structures. Our Relief team worked closely with the local team in Porto Alegre to support impacted families, serving over 100,000 meals to community members. The last time WCK responded to flooding in the country was in 2024 when our teams were in Rio Grande de Sul after floodwaters and landslides displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

This remains a quickly evolving situation. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive more information and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Bluesky, and Facebook for real-time updates.
