As Omicron Surges, WCK Supports Healthcare Heroes
In early December the United States confirmed its first case of the emerging Omicron coronavirus variant. In the following weeks, it became the dominant version of the virus infecting people across the country, and in New York, it’s estimated that Omicron was the source of 90% of cases in the days before Christmas.
As Covid numbers soared in New York City, mobile vaccination and testing clinics saw a spike in people needing services. In response, WCK quickly began contacting some of our longtime restaurant partners to start cooking again.
The week of December 20, WCK reactivated our #ChefsForAmerica Covid response in the city, working with Norm’s Pizza to get fresh pies to staff at the mobile vaccination sites. These healthcare heroes are working long hours on cold winter days to ensure people can stay safe amid the surge.
Each day, the WCK Relief Team is providing freshly prepared restaurant meals to a dozen vaccination and mobile testing sites in all five boroughs. Some meal highlights include: Tisserie’s croissant sandwiches served with fresh fruit, N&N Catering’s chicken and veggie wraps, nourishing CAVA bowls, teriyaki salmon over vegetable lo mein prepared by Elegant Affairs, and Amma’s chicken and veggie curry!
WCK will continue providing meals to these teams as they work through the surge. For the most up-to-date information on our efforts, follow WCK on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
