Update on Gaza Operations
We’ve been working tirelessly to restart cooking in Gaza while prioritizing the safety of our staff and people we serve. To date we have served nearly 82 million meals and are a lifeline to many. We must continue.
After the tragic November 30 attack, Israel publicly demanded an investigation into our hiring practices in Gaza, including security checks through COGAT, the Israeli department in charge of humanitarian aid. Although these measures cannot fully guarantee safety, they help reduce the risk of attacks on our team, kitchens, and distribution sites. Based on the results, we made the difficult decision to make changes in Gaza.
This should not be taken as a conclusion by WCK that the individuals are affiliated with any terror organization. Prior to receiving the results of the COGAT security check, we had no reason for concern regarding any of these individuals and, because Israel does not share intelligence with aid organizations, we do not know the basis for Israel’s decision to flag these individuals. However, we felt this step was necessary to protect our team and operations.
We believe we had two options- to close operations in Gaza or adjust to their request. This decision protects Palestinian children and families that come to eat at our sites. Balancing safety with our mission to serve is a responsibility we take very seriously. Despite these challenges, we remain focused on our mission. We praise our team in Gaza for feeding everyday, making the impossible possible.

نعتقد أن لدينا خيارين – لإغلاق العمليات في غزة أو التكيف مع طلبهم. وهذا القرار يحمي الأطفال الفلسطينيين والأسر التي تأتي لتناول الطعام في مواقعنا. إن الموازنة بين السلامة ومهمتنا للخدمة هي مسؤولية نأخذها على محمل الجد. وعلى الرغم من هذه التحديات، ما زلنا نركز على مهمتنا. نحن نثني على فريقنا في غزة لإطعامه كل يوم، مما يجعل المستحيل ممكناً.
