WCK activates in support of Afghan refugees
As thousands of people from Afghanistan fleeing the country arrive at various locations around the world – including Washington, DC and Spain – WCK has activated to support the best way we know how: with fresh, hot meals. Beginning today at Dulles Airport in Virginia, the WCK Relief Team partnered with two restaurants to have nourishing meals on site for families as soon as they landed.
Lebanese Taverna delivered the first set of meals – chicken or beef shawarma, falafel, and lamb cooked with spinach – at lunchtime. After families deplane, they go through customs and Covid testing before meeting us for a warm meal. Many people have been traveling for days, and some have not had a proper meal in that same amount of time.
For dinner tonight, WCK restaurant partner Cava delivered hundreds more meals that the WCK team served into the night. It can take up to 7 or 8 hours from the time planes first land to when families make it through customs, so we are honored to be able to welcome them with nutritious meals.
The WCK team is quickly expanding our effort to support Afghan families, so please follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to stay up-to-date.
