The Gironde region wildfire, like the fires in Spain, forced thousands of families out of their homes, disrupted roadways, and limited access to food. Over 220,000 people were displaced. Shifting winds complicated containment efforts, and increasing numbers of communities were placed on evacuation orders.

WCK’s Yasmin is checking in from Bordeaux, where WCK is on the ground supporting communities impacted by the wildfire in southern France. Many people who had to evacuate their homes are sheltering at the city’s exhibition center. Our teams are serving sandwiches and adapting to best support impacted families.
