WCK Responds in Garden Grove, California After Toxic Chemical Leak
A damaged tank holding 7,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate—a highly flammable and toxic industrial chemical—remains unstable and at risk of exploding. Approximately 40,000 residents are under evacuation orders or warnings across a three-square-mile zone. Schools are closed, eight evacuation centers are active, and authorities are working to stabilize the tank as conditions remain dangerous and unresolved. Displaced community members face health concerns, economic disruption, and an uncertain timeline for returning home.

For tens of thousands of people near GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove, California, Memorial Day celebrations were taken away after being forced to evacuate due to an industrial chemical hazard. WCK made sure they still had a comforting meal by setting up free food distribution sites at Savanna High School, the Elks Lodge, shelters, and other key locations around the impacted area.
