In early August 2022, dozens of people, including children, were killed due to a flare-up of violence in Gaza—and more than 450 people were displaced. A closed border between Gaza and Israel blocked the transportation of fuel and many families had just 3-4 hours of electricity each day.
This escalation of violence compounded Gaza’s longstanding humanitarian crisis which is characterized by chronic food insecurity.
Working with our partner Anera, WCK delivered fresh meals to families displaced by the violence or who were otherwise unable to access food. Hot, nourishing meals were provided each day to people in Rafah refugee camp located in the south near the Egyptian border. An estimated 40% of people at the camp were directly impacted by the fighting.
WCK also provided nutritious lunches at Anera’s summer camps which provide a safe space for children to process trauma through play, music, and art. WCK previously worked with Anera in Gaza in May 2021 in response to airstrikes that left thousands of families displaced. Together, we served more than 100,000 meals to the community.

Chef Relief Team
The Cooperative Society For Saving and Lending (CSSL), a local women’s cooperative, is cooking & distributing WCK meals. With love & care, dishes are made with input from the community to ensure food is nourishing & familiar. Their motto, “Do what you love, and love what you do.”
Distribution
Once packaged, the team at CSSL distributes meals to hundreds of families whose homes were destroyed by the recent conflict in southern Gaza. 49 people lost their lives.
