World Central Kitchen was on the ground in Orange County, California as the Norte Fire raged—0% contained and spreading fast across more than 400 acres, fueled by intense Santa Ana winds. WCK and our local partners served meals to impacted communities.
WCK has a long history of responding to wildfires in California, including the 2025 blazes that devastated entire neighborhoods in Southern California. From hot meals to farmer’s markets and commissary kitchen spaces, we have deep connections in the region that allow us to respond with urgency and ensure meals reach anyone in need.
Checking in from California with WCK’s Alyssa
Our team is in San Juan Capistrano at the edge of the Norte Fire evacuation zone, where hundreds of people are waiting—some on foot, some in their cars—to hear if they can return home. WCK is there with them, handing out burritos to families at the blockade. When you’ve been waiting for hours unsure of where you’ll go next, a warm meal matters.
