WCK Responds to Deadly Train Collision in Spain

#ChefsForSpain
Toledo, Spain | Active since October 2026
World Central Kitchen is responding to the collision of two high-speed trains near Urda, in the province of Toledo, Spain, along the Madrid–Andalusia rail line. The crash has caused multiple fatalities and injuries, with rescue operations ongoing and the official toll continuing to evolve.

WCK teams are mobilizing from our Response Operations Center in Madrid, with two food trucks and a support 4×4 vehicle. One food truck is equipped to prepare meals on site, while the second is configured for distribution. Sandwiches prepared by our board member chef Pepa Muñoz are ready to support the initial response.

“When a crisis like this unfolds, every minute matters. Our teams are mobilizing with food and resources ready to support people affected by the crash,” said Chef Oli, WCK’s Response Director. “We know how important it is to provide food to both the passengers and the first responders working tirelessly to save lives. We’re ready to support local efforts and adapt as needs evolve.”

Immediately after hearing of the train collision in Toledo, the team at Chef Pepa’s El Qüenco de Pepa jumped to action.

Chef Pepa and her team made sandwiches—now on the way to Toledo with WCK teams, headed to passengers and the responders working at the scene.
