WCK Responds to Tropical Storm Lala in in Hawaiʻi

#ChefsForHawaii
Hilo, Hawaiʻi | Active since August 2026
World Central Kitchen teams pre-positioned in Hilo ahead of Tropical Storm Lala’s landfall on the island of Hawaiʻi, which arrived on August 15. Now, we’re serving meals to families impacted by the storm.

Earlier this year, WCK worked with community leaders on the islands of O’ahu, Molokaʻi, and Maui, Hawaiʻi, where Kona Low storms caused intense flooding and put the Wahiawa Dam on O’ahu at risk of failure.

We supported residents who had already come together to care for their communities across the islands, helping them serve meals to the hardest-to-reach areas.

In 2023, WCK teams responded to the devastating wildfires on Maui, where we worked closely with local communities to support families who lost everything to the fires. Our teams served more than 150,000 meals as families began the long process of recovery.
