World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team responded after Super Typhoon Sinlaku hit communities in the western Pacific Ocean.

The storm brought torrential rain and hurricane-force wind gusts hours before its arrival.

Sinlaku is the strongest tropical typhoon so far in 2026, with winds up to 185 mph. It was also earlier than usual in the year for a storm of this strength—most typhoons in this region typically occur from July-November. Super Typhoon Sinlaku is slow-moving, prolonging the impact on islands in the region.

Our teams responded in Saipan, Rota, and Tinian, all in the Northern Mariana Islands.

Just days after Super Typhoon Sinlaku, communities across Saipan—one of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth in the western Pacific—are hard at work on recovery efforts. WCK is working with local restaurant partners like Great Harvest Bread Co. to prepare hot meals for impacted families. By providing reliable access to food, we’re ensuring residents can focus on rebuilding and moving forward.

After Super Typhoon Sinlaku swept through the island of Tinian, not everyone could come to us. So we went to them.
WCK’s Jaz and our local team delivered warm, nourishing meals directly to homebound families—reaching people who lost their kitchens, had no transportation, or were too sick to leave their homes.
This is what last-mile delivery looks like. Because when disaster strikes, the most vulnerable are often the hardest to reach—and the ones who need help most. Our locally-led teams know these communities, know these streets, and know exactly where meals are needed.
